One-of-a-Kind Vintage China Mosaics
Custom Designed Original Mosaics
By Connie Funk
Each mosaic creation by Constance Funk is a
one-of-a-kind work of art using found vintage materials as well
as clay shapes made by hand. These pieces have been made by
pressing Depression era glass, seams of old worn jeans, and and
antique lockets, among others, into the clay to give it vintage
appeal that tells a story. The story is that life is a mosaic
of all of our experiences and that it is never too late to have
a happy childhood, starting at this present moment.

My Relations: Horses
Growing up as a horse crazy girl in the 1950's, I attended a
Camp Fire Girls summer program on Vashon Island named Camp
Sealth in honor of Chief Sealth/Seattle. The natural beauty
and stories around the fire stayed with me in the years to
come and Chief Seattle became a Grandfather-Hero for me. I
took his words very seriously: "When the buffalo are all
slaughtered, the wild horses all tamed, the secret corners
of the forest heavy with the scent of many men, and the view
of the ripe hills blotted by talking wires, where is the
thicket? Where is the eagle? Gone."
This was some of my first consciousness of the importance of
being caregivers for the earth and all of its inhabitants
and influences and motivates me today in my volunteer
work/play with children and horses in nature.
The central tile was made with the image of a leather and
paper album cover with the likeness of Chief Seattle from
the the early 1900's.Primitive tiles are placed and cut with
twelve horse tiles created by the artist, representing an
Indian herd that would serve and partner with the people who
called them their relations.
This is a one-of-a kind mosaic from a series called "The
Horse is your Mirror" to signify the amazing way horses
reflect to us who we are and came to be, helping us to
befriend and learn from our shadows.

GIRL OF THE GOLDEN
WEST
One-of-a-kind mosaic end table with
drawer
Created by Constance Funk
Woodylane Farm
This curvaceous vintage end table gets
a new life as a showcase for the Girl of the Golden West of
truth and legend. Barn red distressed paint is complimented
by vibrant Italian glass in several colors to highlight the
central tile of our inner vintage Cowgirl. She is surrounded
by handmade Paisley Bandana print
tiles and a border of lustrous glass. The sides of the table
feature handcrafted clay cowgirl boots with a border made
from the mold of an antique wooden carving. The back is
enhanced with a ceramic stagecoach scene from a vintage box
lid and the drawer front is a collage of clay pieces made
from old tooled leather, cowboys in chaps, stars, hearts and
cornice brackets that you might see in a classic Western
barn. The entire piece is distressed and rubbed with English
wax and has a charm that will have you standing taller in
your boots.
